About The Author![]()
Ardyth Brott has a passion for the arts and has
dedicated much of her adult life to promoting Canadian culture.
She authored the critically lauded Jeremy’s Decision (published by Oxford University Press, 1993) which sold over 90,000 copies.
It was published in French (La Courte Eschelle) as Olivier Ne Sait Pas. Jeremy’s Decision was orchestrated by Ontario composer Paul McIntyre and has
been performed by many orchestras throughout North America including the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.
For the past 25 years Ardyth has held the position of
Executive Director of the Brott Music Festival - Canada's
largest orchestral music festival (www.brottmusic.com)
. A driving creative force, she conceived and co-conceived
the groundbreaking children’s concert Beethoven & The Bully and
the Hamilton Living Heritage series.
As their
Executive Director for the past 20 years, the National Academy Orchestra of Canada,
Canada's only professional training orchestra, grew to become a
proven and lauded training ground for young professional Canadian musicians.
Ardyth lives in Hamilton, Ontario with her husband, Maestro
Boris Brott.
This beautifully illustrated story takes children, and the child in all of us, back to the
incredible journey of our birth. Told through the eyes of an about-to-
be-born child, it explores insights, family relationships and the
mysteries of unknown sounds. It also encourages the reader to delve
back to our earliest mystery; the mystery of our birth.
Illustrated by Dragana Miladinovic-Eic:
Dragana Miladinovic-Eic was born and raised in Kragujevac,
Serbia, where she became fascinated with painting and sculpture
during visits to her great aunt’s art studio. She settled in Fredericton,
NB in 1986 where she is an architect by profession, while pursuing
her lifelong love of art. Her paintings are housed in private art
collections in Canada, Europe and the United States.

Illustrated by Michael Martchenko:
Growing up in a small town north of Paris, France, Michael loved comic books and learned a lot about visual humor from watching cartoons. He moved to Canada when he was seven.
By high school Michael knew that he wanted to make art his career. Upon graduation from the Ontario College of Art in 1966, Michael began working in commercial art.
He was the creative art director for TDF Artists in Toronto until 1993. Michael spends most of his time illustrating in his home studio.
